Superintendent’s message
A welcome from Dr. Sarah Chen, superintendent of Fairview School Division.
Dr. Sarah Chen
s.chen@fairviewdivision.eduDear Fairview families,
Every September, I walk the halls of all six of our schools on the first day back, and every year, I’m reminded why I love this work. It’s in the kindergarten teacher at Willowbrook who knows every student’s name before the bell even rings. It’s in the Grade 12s at Sunnybrook nervous and excited for their last first day. It’s in the quiet confidence of a Pinecrest student who found their footing in Grade 7 and hasn’t looked back since.
Fairview School Division has grown a great deal since 1952, but what hasn’t changed is our belief that every student deserves to be known, not just taught. That shows up in our class sizes, in our advisory programs, and in the way our staff talk about the kids in their care. It’s not a slogan here. It’s how we hire, how we budget, and how we make decisions at the board table.
This year, we’re proud of a growing French Immersion program at Maplewood and of continued investment in the mental health and wellness supports our students and staff need to thrive. None of that happens without the partnership of Fairview families. Thank you for trusting us with your children.
If you ever have a question, a concern, or just want to talk about what’s working (or what isn’t), my door, and my inbox, is open.
Warmly,
Dr. Sarah Chen
Superintendent
